After being declared missing for 24 days, a hiker who went missing on Mongkrang Hill, on the slopes of Mount Lawu, Karanganyar, Central Java, was found dead on Tuesday, February 10, 2026. The body of Yasid Ahmad Firdaus, 26, a resident of Colomadu, Karanganyar, was discovered through an independent search conducted by a joint volunteer team.
According to field information, Yasid’s body was found by the Joint SAR Team and volunteers in a river stream within the Mitis area at approximately 08:00 WIB. The body was found intact.
‘It is true that the victim has been found. The victim was found deceased by a joint volunteer team. The family has been notified of the discovery,’ said the Chief Executive of BPBD Karanganyar, Hendro Prayitno, when confirmed regarding the news.
According to him, the joint volunteer team is currently still evacuating the body. ‘The evacuation process is still underway. The victim will be taken to Karanganyar Regional Hospital (RSUD),’ Hendro stated.
Previously, the search operation for the missing hiker on Mongkrang Hill, Mount Lawu, Karanganyar, was officially closed on Sunday afternoon, January 31, 2026. The closure of the search operation was carried out after two extensions beyond the standard search period.
The search for survivor Yasid Ahmad Firdaus, 26, on Sunday, January 31, 2026, marked the 13th day of the search. It is known that the survivor went missing while climbing Mongkrang Hill on January 18, 2026, with three companions. Yasid became separated from his three friends while descending the hill. The Head of BPBD Karanganyar, Hendro Prayitno, said that the search on the final day was divided into 12 Search and Rescue Units (SRU).”
